A Celebration of Community: Our First Outdoor Harvest Feast & Student Exhibition
Our school recently held the first of many events that was a vibrant celebration of creativity, our culture and nature’s bounty - the first - ever Outdoor Harvest Feast & Student Exhibition. It was a wonderful day filled with the spirit of togetherness, and we couldn’t be more proud of what our students accomplished. This unique soil-to-table experience brought students, families, and teachers together as we celebrated both the harvest season and the creative talents of our young learners.
The Harvest Feast
The air was filled with the mouthwatering aromas of fresh herbs and vegetables, all simmering together in our communal pot luck stew. From plump potatoes to colourful carrots, everyone’s contribution added to the richness of the meal. It was an experience that connected our students not only to the food they eat but also to the land it comes from and the community they share it with. We gathered around the campfire, enjoying the warmth of the food and each other’s company.
“Who We Are” Learning Showcase: A Glimpse into Our Students’ Learning
As well as the feast, the Exhibition, a presentation of creative projects that captured the essence of our student’s identity, culture, and personal stories. This exhibition was not just about learning but about celebrating who we are as individuals and as a community. Each class took the theme in different, meaningful directions, offering us windows into their unique perspectives.
• Buzzard Class focused on the theme of the interconnectedness between body and mind, exploring how both influence personal well-being. Their projects reflected on stress, the brain, and the heart, offering insights into how mental and physical health are deeply intertwined. One of the standout activities was an interactive “Pin the Organs on the Human” game, which allowed attendees to learn more about the human body in a fun and engaging way. Buzzard Class showed us the importance of understanding how our emotions and thoughts affect our overall health.
• Deer Class shared projects that revolved around the central idea that families provide varied experiences that contribute to personal well-being and a sense of belonging. Through personal stories and family reflections, the students gave us a peek into their home lives and cultural traditions. Their project included a wonderful collection of family recipes, each representing a special dish and memory. This focus on family traditions highlighted how the experiences we share with loved ones help shape who we are and how we feel connected to the world around us.
• Fox Class developed the project titled “My Body and Me”, which aimed to foster an awareness of themselves as unique individuals and what their bodies can do. The students created drawings, writings, and other artworks to explore their physical selves and their capabilities. Through this project, Fox Class students gained a deeper understanding of their bodies and celebrated their individuality. The work was filled with self-observation and empowerment, emphasising that each student is unique in their own way, both inside and out.
A Day to Remember
This first exhibition was more than just a school event; it was a celebration of who we are as a learning community. From gathering harvest to preparing and sharing a meal, from exploring personal identities to celebrating cultural heritage, the Harvest Feast & Student Exhibition brought us all closer together. It was a reminder that our school is not just a place of learning but a place of belonging.
Buzzard Class’s exploration of the body-mind connection, Deer Class’s celebration of family and belonging, and Fox Class’s empowering focus on self-awareness all contributed to making this exhibition an enriching experience for everyone involved. These projects reflected not only the creativity of our students but also their deep understanding of themselves and their communities.
We look forward to many more celebrations like this, where we can come together to share our stories, our creativity, and the fruits of our labour. Until then, we carry with us the memories of this special day, and the inspiration to keep growing - in our learning, in our gardens and in our hearts.
